First Aid Meet February 2024
I had a lot of fun at the first aid meet, although it was a bit cramped with how many troops were there. The first situation we were in was a large-scale issue. Another troop’s stove had exploded and we had to help the injured people. Lily took the lead on this, and was able to figure out who to help first. While the others treated open wounds, I was put in charge of securing the area and treating the injured for shock. The second situation was much easier, since it was only a one person issue. One of the scouts in our troop had an upset stomach, and didn’t know what could have caused it. In the end, it turned out he was going into anaphylactic shock from eating phad thai chili! (He was allergic to peanuts) The next one was a bit harder, since we had to take care of two adults. While hiking, we had seen a motorcycle crash and were the only ones nearby. While we were treating the motorcyclist’s wounds, the other person began having a stroke, which forced us to divide our people to help both of them. During the last scenario, I was one of the victims, so I don’t know much of what happened. We were on a boat outside of Sea Base, and were hit by a giant storm. I was knocked off of the boat, and another person had gotten their leg trapped in a wire and had an open fracture on their femur. The group had taken too long to figure out what to do, and by the time one of them had thrown the lifesaver out to me, I was already too far away. The chaperone for the station told our group that the best course of action was to just let me float to shore, on the open ocean! From what I could catch, the group had tried to tourniquet the wound, but had done it improperly. After the meet, we went to Wegmans with Troop 52 and got pizza.
